Samsung Galaxy Configurator

During my time at Samsung, I was tasked to redesign the Samsung Galaxy purchase configurator on Samsung.com. This encompasses both UI style changes, interaction changes and updating the user flows to stream line the decision making process for our customers.

Before redesigning

With analytic data collected from one of our data analysts, we looked at drop-off rates for each configuration step. We also collected user engagement data of promotional banner interaction, number of accessories chosen, and actual users paths. Once we had a solid understanding of what user engagement looked like with the old configurator we began to create the new experience and UI.

USER FLOW

To purchase a new Galaxy device, our customers needed to make a lot of decision before getting to checkout. Based on engagement data from the last configurator, we organized a step by step flow where users only need to make one decision at a time. If customers wanted to change color for example, they were able to jump backward in the process and quickly change their mind.

Final Product

Based on the data collected, I designed a new user experience for the configurator. I began with mobile first and focused on fitting all content above the fold to help decrease user confusion throughout the checkout process.

Take Away

I worked very closely with Product Managers and business stakeholders to redesign the purchasing experience. There were two main goals; for the Product Managers, they wished to create a quick and short process to buy the new phone. For the design team and myself, our goal was to create an experience that helps the customers make choices that they fully understand and are satisfied with.  This is an ever changing project and we are still learning, with data and user feedback, how our customers purchase devices.
